The Music School

Experience Guru-Shishya Parampara

Taleem is part of Timeless Music where one still finds the age old concept of guru-shishya teaching which has become so rare in the music schools of today. Taaleem represents the fusion of rhythm (Taal) and edification (Taleem).

The traditional strict rigorous way of learning music has been moderated to meet with the changing times.

Taleem Teachers

Hidayat has taught at various schools and universities all over the world. In addition, he recently conducted a course in Introduction to Indian Classical Music at Princeton University for Ustad Zakhir Hussein. In his school, Taleem, he has been teaching many students in both traditions of Indian Classical Music, sitar and vocal. Many of his students have performed at various venues, including the Indian Consulate in New York City. Hidayat teaches all forms of Indian Classical Music to a diverse group of students playing various instruments such as guitar, violin, sitar, and voice. Some of his students are professional musicians themselves.

Jharna has been teaching Indian Classical and Semi-Classical dance lessons for the past twenty years. Recently, her daughter Aashima has also begun teaching Bollywood and Hip Hop dance classes. Together they form the dance spectrum of Taaleem, in which music is taken to another level when accompanied by abhinaya (facial expression), nrita (bodily movement), and mudras (hand gestures). All styles of dance combine these three facets of performance to create the basis of natya, the blending of rhythm, movement, and melody.
